ABOUT US
This blog hopes to follow the ramblings (both literally and figuratively) of Roger and Rose-Mary, more affectionately, otherwise known as
R & R.
R & R.
As a perpetual daily diary writer, there has always been a struggle with writing autobiographically and the use of I/we/us and our. As an attempt to deal with this, Roger may be referred to as RL or he, the Hum, the husband, her husband, the father and Rose-Mary as RA or she, the wife, his wife, the mother, while ‘they’ might describe R & R and the collective terms of them and their could be used. ‘Other half’ may also pop up, but never, “Better half”. Their relatives and friends will be referred to by a relationship title and an initial (e.g. his father, R) and you will come to recognise Spot, the Navigator and the Sat.
There will be an attempt to write and post as regularly as possible but remoteness will determine the frequency and timing. Any comments will be read but it is not the intention to engage with responses.
Recently retired and determined to set out from Mount Barker WA and travel this great country for the best part of a year, R & R are setting out ... rambling in search of:
fun and adventure, new places, Slim Dusty’s Australia, life after retirement/children, life as a married couple at a next stage in life, echidnas and frilly necked lizards, places and markers relating to Australian history, famous Australians like Patterson & Lawson, Lawson, Wentworth and Blaxland and other explorers, connections between our past and the present (including visiting friends and relatives), connections with the land and the indigenous people and their culture, a recollection for their children if they should need it later.
Sounds like a bucket list, but it isn’t. It’s not a matter of separate items on a list, like hot air ballooning over the Barossa Valley and scuba diving at the Great Bdarrier Reef, and ticking them off on completion.
It is a conglomerate of interests and ideas that is fluid, more like waypoints on a journey; not to be sweated over if not found or completed and then ticked off.
Having said that, RL is determined to drive on the Trans Access Track and the Old Eyre Hwy while RA thinks that she’d really like to go to a Legoland.
